Glendale, Arizona – The desert air may have been refreshingly cool on Saturday evening, but the green turf of the Phoenix Field Hockey League final was absolutely blazing with passion and intensity! In a thrilling, edge-of-the-seat showdown that marked the grand finale of the league’s historic first season, the mighty Coyotes defeated a never-say-die Eagles side 6-3 to claim the inaugural championship title. What a way to end three months of fierce competition!
A Final to Remember: Coyotes Crowned Kings of Phoenix Hockey
Under the lights, with a gentle breeze whispering across the field, the players brought the heat of the Arizona desert right onto the pitch. Every stick hit, every sprint, and every tackle felt like a mini battle as the crowd roared in approval.
The Eagles, captained by the determined Anuj, came out fighting like warriors. Speedsters Abdullah, Henery, Vivek, and Gurshan Singh ran their hearts out, while Simran, Sapna, and Unis provided rock-solid support in the midfield and defense. They refused to surrender even as referee Riyaz blew the final whistle — their eyes still burning with the hunger for victory.
But the Coyotes were on a mission. Led by the victory planner and commanding captain Amol, they controlled the midfield like predators on the prowl. However, it was the sensational Namit Mangat who stole the show. He sliced through the Eagles’ defense with majestic runs, delivered killer passes that turned into goals, and looked unstoppable — a true midfield maestro who made the Eagles’ defenders tremble every time he touched the ball.
First Half – Neck-and-Neck Battle
The goal fireworks started early as Vivek drew first blood for the Eagles with a clinical strike. Within minutes, Raman replied with a brilliant equalizer for the Coyotes — the crowd erupted! Raman struck again with deadly accuracy, but Gurshan Singh produced a moment of magic, converting a perfect pass into a stunning goal. The teams went into halftime locked at a tense 2-2. The atmosphere was electric!
Second Half – Coyotes Unleashed
As the second half began, Shamsher Johal fired the Coyotes into the lead, signaling their championship intent. Eagles refused to buckle. Namit Mangat turned into a one-man army — his dazzling dribbles and pinpoint passes created havoc in the opposition’s circle. He scored a beauty himself, while Vivek once again pulled one back for Eagles, making it 3-4.
The tension was sky-high. Then PP Sanghera delivered the decisive blow with a powerful finish. The final score flashed: Coyotes 6 – Eagles 3. The green turf belonged to the Coyotes! Coyotes: Raman Johal (3), Shamsher Johal (1), Namit Mangat (1), PP Sanghera (1) and for the Eagles: Vivek (2), Gurshan Singh (1)
Other Results: Rattlesnakes edged Panthers with 3-1 to secure 3rd place in the league and Bobcats defeated Cougars to finish 5th. It’s the Cougars who couldn’t taste a single win in the league so far.
Young star Ravneet Johal of Rattlesnakes impressed everyone with her fearless attacking play throughout the league, while experienced campaigner Raj Mangat of Panthers dazzled with his classy stick skills and leadership.
From the roaring cheers after every goal to the never-ending spirit shown by both teams, this final was pure hockey magic. Age was no barrier, every player, young or experienced, fought with burning passion and unstoppable energy on the Glendale turf. The inaugural Phoenix Field Hockey League has left an unforgettable impression. Congratulations to the Coyotes — the worthy first champions! The entire hockey fraternity in Phoenix is already buzzing with excitement, eagerly awaiting the schedule for the next thrilling season.
Important and Noticeable:
Umpire Riyaz and Paru did the most difficult and sensible thing during this entire league. Keeping your eyes and ears fully open in every match and running your steps along with the stick and ball of the players is really a big task. And it was shown by Riyaz, Paru, Ilam and Colleen.
Apart from this, Deep Dhillon, Ilam and Paru did a good job also in league management. But the brain behind it all was the genius of Bob Khosla. Although he missed out on seeing and enjoying the important moments of the final, but he definitely put Arizona on the world hockey map by starting the league in field hockey.
Refreshment and hospitality:
Along with this, the team of Prehlad Singh and Avtar Singh from MG Sportsplex and Phoenix Hockey Club served the audience and players well with canned batta (soda), tea pakodas and samosas. Jassi brought cashew barfi from his house which was liked by all. Thus, this evening of finals became a lively evening with salty and sweet.
